Onyx

  • 4 yrs old
  • Gelding
  • Black, but turning gray!
  • Arabian
  • Kill pen rescue
Onyx was saved by the Equine Angel, Shirley Puga. He came to Safe Haven, with the kill pen # still stuck on his butt! He was small, alone, & scared. He would unknownly steal the heart of one of Safe Haven's board menmbers! It wasn't very long after he arrived that Dave adopted him!!! Onyx even went to Monty Roberts for a 3 week training course! He came back with lot's of good manners, & Dave has been working with him to keep his training fresh & growing! Our little Onyx is not so little anymore!!! I will post a picture, taken last week, on the Gallery section so you can see how tall, & how GRAY he's getting!!! He is a very sweet boy!

Lovey

  • 20 + yrs old
  • Mare
  • Seal Bay
  • T/B
Lovey came to Safe Haven Horse Rescue needing 400lbs of weight!!! The people who 'dropped her off' said that their farrier said that Lovey did not have enough teeth to eat hay!!! Well! Linda R. gave her some hay & could HEAR her chewing that hay!!! Lovey was given a bath after her lunch by Bonnie & Sandy P. she felt much better then. As w/ all the emaciated horses that come in, it took a good 6 months to get Lovey up on her weight!  Lovey is still at Safe Haven, & has been adopted by Holly!!! YEAH! Holly loves her Lovey & rides English & Western. They do jumping, trail riding, & gymkhana. Lovey is her do every thing horse!!! I wonder if they do cows????

Delta Dawn

  • back side of 20 yrs old
  • Mare
  • Chestnut

This is Delta Dawn, on the day she arrived from Glenn County! The people said that someone had just left her in one of their pens one day, when they were not home! Linda R. gave her a betadine bath immediately. I took these pictures & as I look back on them, it is just SHOCKING!!! I guess we didn't let ourselves even THINK about just how bad of shape she was!!! As this sweet sweet mare gained weight & felt good enough to show some personality, we had SO MUCH FUN with her!!! She was quick out the gate to get into the barn & could open the alfalfa pellet can in a New York Second!!! She provided everyone with lot's of laughter & joy!

Unfortunity Delta Dawn had suffered a leg injury in her past & it was never addressed, so as she gained the much needed weight, it just aggravated the old injury. We had her at the vets & did X-rays & Delta Dawn would need about the same leg surgery (not as intensive) as Barbaro!  After much discussion & heart break we decided that her quality of life was dwindling & the ole girl, herself, told Linda R. that it was time. Safe Haven Horse Rescue had Delta Dawn humanely euthanized at the ranch. She will ALWAYS be in our HEARTS!

Annie

This is how Annie looked when she came to Safe Haven .
She had a winter coat that was covered in mud when she came to Safe Haven. But you can see her hip bones, ribs and you can see how flat her back end is.

Annie is a TB mare

This is Annie after she put all her weight back on. And she had shed out her winter coat.  She is a happy heathly girl. She is a great trail riding horse and has been adopted to a great home.
